About the event
Smitten with Mittens!Â
With Cynthia Donahey
You know what they say! "Warm hands, warm hearts".  What better way to celebrate Valentine’s day than to learn to make mittens?
This class will build on the Intro to Knitting series and will meet two times.
Week 1, Feb 3rd: Students will cast on, work ribbing, learn increases (thumb gusset) and learn to transfer their work to a stitch holder. (Homework that week will be to repeat this for the second mitten at home.)
Week 2, Feb 10th: Students will learn decreasing (for the thumb) and seaming using the Whip Stitch, and knit up the palm. Â Students will also learn the Mattress stitch for seaming up the cuff, and learn to pick up held stitches to finish their second mitten at home. Â
Cynthia also has some other things up her sleeve to show students how to embellish their mittens…
to BRING to class:
- 100g of Worsted Weight yarn of your choice (there are some nice selections at the shop or bring your own, we recommend Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok).
- Size 7 needles (we will be knitting flat, so straight needles from prior classes are OK).
- Notebook/pencil
We will supply pattern, stitch markers, stitch holders, tapestry needles. (Or bring your own if you have ones you prefer.)
Cost for BOTH classes is $50.
